James W. "Jim" Lee
LEE, James W. "Jim", 84 of Brandon, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. Born in Comanche, TX, he left High School early to join the U.S. Air Force where he later met his wife, Anna M. Marcano of Brandon. He retired in 1968, after 20 years of honorable service, and moved his family to Brandon. He joined Hillsborough Community College as Director of Development and later served the City of Tampa under Mayor Dick Greco. During his time in public service, he obtained a B.A. from the University of Maryland, a M.A. from the University of Oklahoma and an Ed. S. from the University of South Florida. Jim left his work at the City of Tampa to begin a career with his wife in real estate. In 1976, he founded Sabal Homes of Florida. Under his leadership, Sabal Homes became one of the most innovative and decorated home builders in the Tampa Bay Area. He was an active member of the Tampa Bay and Florida Home Builders Associations for more than 20 years, leading countless industry committees and initiatives. A spirited man, with strong convictions and the courage to act on them, he also gave much of himself to the community. He was a candidate for office, a community activist, twice served as Chairman of the Hillsborough County Charter Review Board and was a policy and political advisor to multiple County Administrators, political candidates and elected officials. Jim adored his wife and enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Ann, of 59 years and five children, Jimmy Lee of Uvalde, Texas and Bill Lee, Tom Lee, Elizabeth Mekdeci and Marilyn Seglund, who all reside locally and eight grandchildren. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Dr. Kevin Klein and the team at the Pepin Heart Hospital for over 10 years of compassionate, quality care.
