Obituary for Jacqueline "Jackie" Chancey Bennett
Lord, you now have set your servant free to go in peace as you have promised. From The Song of Simeon. On Friday, November 27, 2020, Jacqueline Chancey Bennett, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at the age of 78. Jackie was born on November 2, 1942 in Tampa, Florida to Marvin and Rosita Chancey. She was a graduate of Plant High School and the University of South Florida in Tampa. On June 9, 1967 she married William Curtis Bennett and together they raised three children, Shannon, Bill, and David. Jackie was a member of Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church in Valrico, Florida for nearly fifty years and was active in a wide variety of ministries at the church. Jackie sang in the choir, and served as a youth group and adult Sunday school leader. She was active in the Cursillo movement for over 40 years. Jackie was also instrumental in the establishment of the Holy Innocents' Memorial Garden. She spent many years maintaining and nurturing the garden so it would be a place of peace and comfort for the families and friends of those who were interred there. Jackie enjoyed entertaining and cooking, whether it was for a small dinner party or a larger gathering for the choir at Christmas. She was an avid reader and lead the Bluestockings Book Club. Jackie was a lifetime bridge player, an accomplished tennis player and bowler. She loved the theater, quilting and needlework, traveling, and bringing the whole family together for memorable family vacations. But Jackie was most passionate about her family and was never happier than when she was surrounded by those she loved the most. Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Marvin, and her mother, Rosita. She is survived by her husband Bill, her three children and their spouses; Shannon and Greg, Bill and Shari, and David, and her six cherished grandchildren; Aidan, Will, Mallory, Caleb, Alec, and Hannah. She is also survived by her brother, his wife, and her nieces and nephew.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in memory of Jackie be made to Jackie's HI Garden. The funds will be dedicated to the future maintenance and enhancement of the garden. Memorial gifts may be made on the website, below, using the Contribute link or by clicking in the In Lieu of Flowers box on the right hand side of that page. In accordance with all quarantine and social distancing precautions, a Celebration of Life service will be held at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church at a future date, when details for that celebration are finalized an announcement will be made.
