Higinia Aurora Nunez, age 101, of Riverview, FL, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023. A
native of San Jose De Las Matas, Dominican Republic, she resided in the Tampa Bay area for the
last two years. Prior to that, she lived in New Jersey for 19 years. However, she took pride in
initially arriving as an immigrant to the City of N.Y. and having worked hard to contribute
towards her family’s wellbeing. She was a devoted Catholic, a member of Resurrection Catholic
Church and was well known for her generosity in helping numerous people. Her greatest joy
was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A renowned storyteller,
Higinia would share stories of the old country and how she was brought up by her parents. She
made it a point to instill the same values, faith and love of God that were instilled in her as a
child, unto her children and extended family. If you were part of her lineage, she wanted you
to show it by being a light and salt in this world. Higinia was preceded in death by her husband,
Ramon Emilio Nunez, her son, Jose Nunez, and her granddaughters, Diana Encarnacion and
Giselle Nunez. She is survived by her sons, Felix Antonio, Arcenio, Simeon, Herminio, Fernando
and Ricardo; daughters, Mercedes, Maria, Ines, and Angela; brothers, Domingo and Benancio
Estevez; thirty-two grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great-
grandchild.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, from 4-6 PM at Southern Funeral Care. A
funeral mass will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church on the following day, Tuesday, June
27, 2023, at 10 AM with a graveside service following at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park.
