Obituary for Gerry Barbara McGinnes
Gerry B McGinnes 9/12/42 – 4/3/2022
On April 3, 2022, our Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Sister and friend suddenly left this world. The empty spot left in our hearts will be filled with memories of the love and laughter she shared with everyone she knew and loved, from childhood and adulthood friends to her dear family.
Gerry grew up in New Castle, Delaware - the daughter of Clifford and Florence Rutter. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1960 and attended the Beebe Hospital School of Nursing before she married Gary Mahan and raised two sons: Scott Mahan (Brandon, Florida) and Michael Mahan (Middleburg, Florida). She was also married to Earl McGinnes (New Castle, DE). After her divorce from Mr. McGinnes, she moved to Brighton, Michigan then Ann Arbor, Michigan where she was employed by Dominos Pizza (Director of Human Resources) for 10 years. She moved to Florida to be closer to her sons and was employed by Hubbard Construction for 3 years before moving to the Tampa Bay area in 1998 then retired in the early 2000s. She continued to live in Florida (Pinellas Park and Valrico) until her passing.
Gerry is survived by sons Michael (spouse June) and Scott (fiancé Heather), grandchildren Kemie Mahan, Victoria (fiancé Austin French ), Hannah (spouse Brian) Romer, Abigail (spouse Josh) Coleman, and Gretchen Mahan. Also surviving are grandchildren Cassie Madrigal, Kara Mahan and her first great grandchild due in September, 2022 (Hannah and Brian). Also surviving are her siblings Larry Rutter (spouse Ramatu), niece Jennifer Rutter and nephew Daniel Rutter, sister Louise Stout (partner Lana Lawrence) and niece Dana Kleiman.
Gerry is predeceased by her parents, Clifford Rutter and Florence Rutter, sister Diane Lawrence and brother-in-law Chuck Lawrence.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Strawberry Ridge Clubhouse, 509 Strawberry Ridge Blvd., Valrico, from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 24, 2022. In lieu of flowers, mom has requested people donate to the local Humane Society or animal shelter.
