Gene Austin Wolfe, 92, of Plant City, Fl went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2024.
Born March 22, 1931, in Flomaton, Alabama to Ilene Thomas Wolfe and Houston Wolfe. Ilene and Gene returned to Florida to live, and she later married Bill Turkington. Gene was raised by his grandfather, Tom “Poppa Tom” Thomas in Ybor City and then moved to the Dover area.
He lived and worked with his grandfather running his gas station/grocery store and graduated from Brandon High School in 1950 where he was active in several sports and clubs and was Class President in his Junior Year.
Gene is a Veteran of the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment, H Company, where he served from 1951-1954.
Upon leaving the Army he returned home and married his high school sweetheart Barbara Ann Hiller. They moved to Plant City where they lived for 66 years and raised their two sons Kevin and Ken.
Gene worked for TECO for 35 years before retiring where he then started enjoying his love of photography. He was also a self-employed gunsmith and photographer over the years.
He was a devout Christian and family man. Gene and Barbara enjoyed going to Disney and taking photos and spending time with their family.
He is survived by
2 sons, Kevin (Amanda) Wolfe, Ken (Tammy) Wolfe
4 grandchildren, Becky (Bryan) Scholten, Amanda Branford, Kelly (Luke) Jones, and Megan (Victor) Guingona.
10 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Wolfe, Ty Scholten, Romeo Banford, Chase Macnicol, Madison Holland, Jameson Jones, TJ “Bubba” Holland, Ava Jones, Benson Guingona and Declan Jones.
Sister Brenda Sanson, brother-in-law Richard Hiller and sister-in-law's Bobbi Hiller and Marilyn Hiller.
He was preceded in death was his dear wife of 67 years Barbara A. (Hiller) Wolfe, mother Ilene Turkington, stepfather Bill Turkington, sister Beverly Souther and 2 grandsons Joshua Macnicol and Theo Luke Jones.
Per Gene’s wishes the family will hold a private burial service and will be having a Celebration of Life service for him and his wife in the coming months.
