With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Tyrus Hampel on July 13, 2026, at the age of 82.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Pearl Hampel; his brother, Larry Hampel; and his sister, Rosalie Milton. He leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife, Diane Hampel; his loving sister, Nancy Driscoll; his sister-in-law, Thirene Hampel; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army, a service that reflected his dedication, strength, and love for others. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially spending time at the beach, cheering on his beloved Michigan State, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Tampa Bay Lightning, and sharing his love of music. Whether he was singing along to a favorite song or enjoying time with family and friends, Gary had a way of making every moment special.
Gary will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. He had a way of making those around him feel welcome, and his presence brought comfort, laughter, and love to so many. The memories he created and the lives he touched will remain a lasting gift to all who knew him.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we take comfort in knowing that love never truly leaves us. Gary’s legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friendships he treasured, and the countless memories that will continue to be shared for years to come.
He was deeply loved, will be profoundly missed, and will forever remain in our hearts.
