Elodie Menemia Bennett (Coverley) passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2024. She was affectionally known as Ella by Bill and her siblings and Mommy to her daughters Elaine, Cyn and Judy.
Elodie “Ella” was born on 17 June 1933 at home on Front Street in Grand Turk of the Turks and Caicos Islands. She was the first child born to Crofton and Helena Coverley.
At the tender age of eighteen Ella left home to pursue a nursing degree in London, England and it was there where she met and fell in love with Bill her husband of sixty-eight years. Their love story continued as their family expanded with the birth of their three daughters. She selflessly forfeited her nursing career to advocate for her family as a dedicated Military Spouse for over two decades. Ella wasn’t what you considered and ordinary housewife, she was exceptional in caring for her family with homemade meals, fresh baked cookies when her daughters came home from school, and at times taking on the dual role of mother and father. When stationed overseas on three occasions, she embraced the opportunity to learn and explore all that was offered while studying different cultures and creating unforgettable memories for her and her family. Ella also understood the importance of Bill’s role in the Air Force and the sacrifices that came with it. Her resilience and ability to adapt assisted greatly in supporting her family through the ups and downs of military life.
Ella had such a love for Grand Turk and her family members and friends. It was important for her to allow her daughters to experience her home and fall in love with the dear people that meant so much to her. She loved sharing her stories of he Ma, Daddy, brothers and sisters to all who would listen. In her story telling, it was apparent that she was proud of her upbringing which explains the very root of who she was and how she treated people with such reverence and love. Her ability to comfort and make others fee special was second to none coupled with her beautiful heart and soul.
Elodie was predeceased by her parnets; Helena and Crofton Coverley, sister Dorothy Bean and brother Neale Coverley. She is survived by her husband William Bennett, Jr (Bill), daughters Elaine Revis, Cyn Barnes (Steve) and Judith Bennett. Her siblings Edith Astwood, Carol Hanchell, Charles Coverley (Jan), Yvonne Youngblood, Nim Hunte, Lucille Ewing, Marva Coverley, Norma Seymour (Perry) and Della Collymore. Grandchildren, Aisha Andrews (Kareem), Taira Sroga (Pete), Travis Barnes (Ashley), Shamari Ward (Adriona) and Rachel Barnes. A great number of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Southern Funeral Care, Riverview, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind
Be always at your back.
May the sun shine
Warm upon your face
And rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you
In the palm of his hand
PSALM 23
23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
PSALM 91
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be they shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and then thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the host High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because He hath set His love upon me, therefore will I deliver Him: I will set Him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer Him: I will be with Him in trouble; I will deliver Him and honor Him.
16 With long life will I satisfy Him, and shew Him my salvation.
