Edwin D. Dickelman

DICKELMAN, Edwin D., 86, of Seffner, Fla., passed away November 3, 2011. Born in Chicago, Ill., November 16, 1924, he had been a resident of Seffner for 32 years. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theresa; daughters, Kathleen Graytok of New York City, N.Y., and Lisa (Robert) Foster of Jacksonville, Fla.; and other loving family members. Ed was a decorated veteran of World War II and served in the 5th Air Force, 22nd Bomber Group, in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, and also attended Purdue University and worked for the Dana Corporations Williams Controls Division for 23 years as a hydraulic engineer. After retirement, he went back to teaching as a substitute and was known by his students as "Mr. Ed." He was a Master Mason at Masonic Lodge #114 FAM, Brandon, and an Egypt Temple Shriner of the York Rite. Ed volunteered as coordinator with the Masonic Missing Children's I.D. Fingerprinting Program; worked with The Concerned Parents of Autistic Children; served 10 years as an R.S.V.P. Advisory Council member; and was an Emergency Room Volunteer at Brandon Regional Hospital for seven years. Ed was presented with the Evelyn Williams Memorial Award by Gov. Jeb Bush in 2006 for service to children and families of the community. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. For those who wish, donations in his memory can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa.
