Edna Allene (Wamble) Nichols
NICHOLS, Edna Allene (Wamble), 87, of Brandon, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. A native of Atlanta, GA, she had resided here for most of her lifetime. A 1945 graduate of Plant High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors. She graduated Cum Laude with a BA in English from Florida State University and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa scholastic fraternity. She taught in the Hillsborough County School System for 35 years, 25 years of which were spent at King High School where she taught advanced English, creative writing and study skills, sponsored drama events, and was faculty adviser to The Orb (a student literary magazine) and mentored and inspired colleagues, interns and students. Edna was a world traveler and studied and appreciated all the arts. She was an accomplished pianist and lover of music and was an avid reader and kept abreast of social and political issues. She was an independent thinker, philosopher and lifelong seeker of knowledge. Edna loved plants, flowers, butterflies, colored glass, poetry, movies, colorful pictures of the cosmos, watching Jeopardy and doing crosswords, and most of all, her family and cherished friends. She LIVED all the days of her life. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Eldred "Nick" Nichols and is survived by her son, John Royal "Jerry" Nichols; daughters, Thea Jean Nichols and Grace Ellen Nichols; sister, Joyce Wamble Glauser; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of her life will be held 6:00 P.M. Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
