Dr. Randy Raymond Hann passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family that meant everything to him. He was 74 years old.
Born on July 10, 1951, Randy lived a life defined by faith, family, friendship, and an unwavering love for the outdoors. He graduated from Maine West High School in Des Plaines, Illinois, in 1969 before pursuing his lifelong passion for caring for animals at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1975. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Florida and established his veterinary practice in Riverview, where he spent decades caring for the pets of countless families. To many, he was more than a veterinarian; he was a trusted friend, advisor, and compassionate presence during both joyful and difficult moments.
On January 28, 1973, Randy married the love of his life, Bonnie June Allison. Their marriage of more than 53 years was built on faith, devotion, laughter, and a shared love of family. Together they raised two children, Gina and Justin, creating a home filled with love, adventure, and memories that will be cherished for generations.
An avid outdoorsman, Randy was happiest when surrounded by nature and the people he loved. Whether he was fishing Central Florida phosphate pits for largemouth bass and crappie, hunting in Pasco County, lobstering and chasing mahi in the waters off Key West, or simply sitting around a campfire with family and friends, he embraced every opportunity to enjoy God's creation.
Eleven years ago, Randy and Bonnie built a family cabin in Lumpkin, Georgia, on property neighboring close friends. He proudly named the property “Hann’s Haven,” and it quickly became a gathering place for family traditions, laughter, and Thanksgiving celebrations shared by the Hann and Tomlinson families. It was a place that reflected Randy himself, warm, welcoming, and always open to those he loved.
For more than forty years, the Hann family made annual August trips to Key West for lobster season, a tradition Randy treasured and one that became woven into the fabric of his family’s story. Those trips, like so many of the memories he created, were never really about the fishing or lobstering. They were about being together.
Randy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Brandon, where he once served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. His faith was evident not only in his words but in the way he treated others with kindness, humility, patience, and genuine care. He was also the founder of the Krewe of the South Shore Marauders, a proud Gasparilla krewe in the Tampa Bay area, and remained active in Safari Club International. He also served as Vice President of the Tampa Bay Aquarium Society.
Though Randy's accomplishments were many, his greatest joy came from being a husband, father, and ultimately “Papa.” The arrival of his grandchildren brought a special light to his life. In spending time with Faith, Colt, and Alabama, he found his greatest happiness in their laughter, their stories, and the simple blessing of watching them grow.
Randy never met a stranger. His gentle spirit, easy smile, and genuine interest in others made people feel welcome wherever he went. To those who knew him, he was larger than life, not because he sought attention, but because his kindness, generosity, and presence left such a lasting impression.
His love for animals extended far beyond his profession. Throughout his life, he shared his home with many beloved dogs and cats, and he held a special affection for Newfoundlands, owning six of the gentle giants he so dearly loved.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Vera Hann, and his mother-in-law, Rita Austin.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Bonnie Hann; his daughter, Gina Tomlinson; his son-in-law, Doug Tomlinson; and their daughter, Faith; his son, Justin Hann; his daughter-in-law, Casey Hann; and their children, Colt and Alabama; his sister, Jayne Lauve, and her husband, Rich Lauve; his nephews, Brandon Malo and his wife, Michelle, and Aaron Malo and his wife, Terri, along with their children; and countless friends, former clients, church family members, and loved ones whose lives were made better by knowing him.
The measure of a man's life is not found in titles, accomplishments, or possessions, but in the lives, he touches and the love he leaves behind. Randy Hann leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family. His absence will be deeply felt, but the memories he created and the example he set will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know him.
