Dr. Nelson Ewin Johnson, 75, passed peacefully on August 9, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Manchester, TN, on July 4, 1949.
Dr. Johnson was a lifelong advocate of learning and higher education. He received his Doctorate, Masters, and Bachelor’s degrees from MTSU and dedicated his career to both education and high school administration. He was a History and English professor at -- and later principal of -- Coffee County Central High School from 1979 to 2002.
In his retirement years, Dr. Johnson enjoyed spending time with family, working on the land of his Manchester home, and later relocating to Tampa, FL, to enjoy the company of his grandchildren.
Dr. Johnson is preceded in death by his mother Naomi (Clay) Sanders, Father Ewin Johnson, and brother Larry (JoAnn) Johnson. Dr. Johnson is survived by wife Wanda Johnson, brother Justin (Victoria) Johnson, son Jason (Jason) Johnson, daughter Shannon (James) Skelton, loving grandchildren Olivia, Eva, and Brooks Skelton, and the lifelong love and memories of his wife’s family, including brother-in-law Randy (Vicky) Vaughn, sister-in-law Vickie Vaughn, nephews Todd (Shelby) Vaughn and Andy (Lauren) Vaughn as well as grand-nieces and a grand-nephew.
