The Hagin family is saddened to share with you the passing of our mother and
grandmother, Dorothy Mabel Hagin, on December 30, 2022. A Tampa native, Dorothy
was born to parents, Robert Virgil Padgett and Katie Cornelia Gay Padgett on
August 19,1926. She attended Brandon High School and was a member of the
graduating class of 1944. A 5th generation Florida Pioneer descendent, Dorothy
leaves a large and extended family.
Married to Perry Berton Hagin on May 24, 1947, Berton preceded Dorothy’s
ascension to Heaven, passing in July of 1991. Dorothy is survived by her daughter,
Dorothy Cheryl Gray; son-in-law, Dennis Michael Gray; son, Robert Mark Hagin; and
granddaughter, Makenna Nicole Hagin. She is also survived by Mark’s fiancée,
Glenna Kramer Glenn who knew Dorothy as “Mom” over the last 20 years of her
life. Loving life and the Lord, Dorothy was cherished by family, friends, and all who
entered her sphere of influence.
Dorothy retired from her position as a Hillsborough County building and zoning
coordinator in 1992 and moved to Sun City Center in May of 2007. She traveled
extensively, loved music, and caring for her plants and flowers. She also delighted
in sharing her faith and loving spirit with everyone she met. Dorothy was a long-
time member of The First Baptist Church of Palm River in Palm River, Florida. Upon
arriving in Sun City Center, Dorothy attended services at The First Baptist Church
of Ruskin and most recently became a member at the Sun City Center United
Methodist Church.
Dorothy’s last place of residence was her loving home in Sun City Center, where
she received round the clock care from Cheryl and Dennis which extended her life
to the benefit of her family and all who had come to know her. Close family were
all encouraged by her being “home” where she loved and was loved by family and
friends. We love you, our Mom, our Gram. We will miss you more than you know.
Until we meet again.
A service will be held at Southern Funeral Care on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11 AM
with family receiving friends one hour prior to services. A graveside will follow at
Hillsboro Memorial Gardens then a reception at Red Lobster located in Regency Square,
2604 W Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made out to LifePath Hospice.
