Obituary for Donald Paul Heald
Donald Paul Heald, 75, of Valrico, FL, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 10, 2021. He was born on July 2, 1946 in Bangor, Maine. He is survived by his wife, Paula; son, Michael; son Robert; grandchildren, Cami, Dax, Kaitlyn, Devin and Parker; brother Tom (Maren) in Gilroy, CA; brother Tim (Christina) in Pepperell, Mass; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Roselle Sullivan Heald; and brother, Robert. Don served in Vietnam as an Army Infantry/Ranger/Airborne officer with the First Infantry Division in 1968 and the Ninth Infantry Division, First Cavalry in 1970-1971. He was then assigned to Ft. Devens, MA with the 10th Special Forces Group and joined the 11th SF Reserve Group upon settling in Florida in 1977. He was a member of the Special Forces Assoc. and SF Chapter 74. He had his own business, Complete Handyman Service, served as the first Cub Scout Master for Buckhorn Elementary and led a Small Christian Community for Nativity Catholic Church. In 1984, Don established Concerned Action InChrist offering free counseling and family activities to those with burdens in life. He volunteered at the after school program at Mary Help of Christians School, the drug and rehab program at Lighthouse Gospel Mission in Riverview and Stepping Stone Farm in Keysville. He especially loved the canoe trips on the Alafia. A longtime member of the Brandon Ministerial Assoc., he was the representative on the Ethics Committee at Brandon Regional Hospital. He was a founding member of I Am Hope Cafe, established to feed the homeless in the Brandon area. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 16, 2021, at Southern Funeral Care, Riverview. Interment will follow at 12:30 P.M. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 15, 2021, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer Association, Nativity Catholic Church Food Pantry, or ECHO.
