Obituary for Donald John Foy
Donald John Foy, of Tampa, Florida, entered into eternal life on Monday, July 27, 2020. He was born on November 1, 1937 in Schenectady, New York, to George L. and Bernice (Schultz) Foy, the youngest of two boys. He graduated from St Columbus Catholic High School and then went on to obtain a degree in Electrical Technology from Hudson Valley. He served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves November 12, 1958 - July 20, 1966. Don met the love of his life, Donna Jean Kaufman, and they married on October 3, 1959. They had 2 boys, Thomas (Tom) and Brian. The family lived in Rotterdam/Schenectady, New York for many years before relocating to the Melbourne, Fl area in 1985 when their first grandchild was born. Don was a long-time member of the AOH (Ancient Order of Hibernians) in Schenectady. Once in Florida, he became a member of Ascension Catholic Church where he was an active volunteer calling Bingo and working on many church projects utilizing his purchasing and project management experience. He had a long career in purchasing, working for MTI & Atlas Copco in NY, Ingersoll-Dresser Pump Company in VA and ending his career as the Purchasing Manager at Rockwell Collins in Melbourne where he earned his CPM certification through NAPM. Don was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed coaching his sons in youth baseball, deer hunting and playing poker with the guys. Don (PaPa) was adored by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They brought him so much joy. Don was a friend to many over the years and he loved his “That Little Restaurant” family. Don lost his beloved wife, Donna, May 22, 2011and he eventually relocated to the Tampa area. Donald is survived by his sons, Thomas Foy, his wife, Kelly of Tampa, Florida and Brian Foy of Cocoa, Florida; his 2 beloved grandchildren, Chelsea (Foy) Lawson, her husband Jimmy of Tampa, Florida and Patrick Foy, his wife Katie of Roswell, Georgia; his 5 great grandchildren: Bryn Lawson, Hunter Foy, Rylee Lawson, Ryan Foy and Emma Foy. He is also survived by his nephew Michael Foy and his wife, Marilyn, of Hayward, California; niece, Mary Lou (Foy) Alther and her husband, Phil, of Keene, New Hampshire and their son Michael of Mapleton, Maine. He was predeceased by his wife, Donna Foy, of Melbourne, Florida; brother, George B. Foy, of Rutland, VT. A funeral mass will be held at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Blvd, Melbourne, FL at 12:00noon on Saturday, August 8, 2020. The family requests in lieu of flowers, a tribute donation be made in memory of Donald Foy to Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org
