Donald Alan MacLauchlan, 79, of Riverview, Florida, went home to be with His Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 20, 2023. Alan was born on August 26, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York to John Donald and Virginia Annie MacLauchlan, both of whom preceded him in death. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, served during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and drove tanks in Germany. He worked more than three decades as a truck driver and driving instructor, retiring from Yellow Freight Trucking.
After discharge from the Army in 1964, Alan was introduced to his future wife Louise on a blind date. He loved to tell the story, and knew immediately she was the one, and they married within just a few months. Together they raised three sons and enjoyed the company of family and friends, often hosting them for meals in their home and delivering meals to their loved ones in need. He also served more than 25 years as an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Brandon, Florida. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and trips to both the beach and mountains. In retirement he enjoyed the abundant nature at their creekside home. Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Jean Louise MacLauchlan; sons, Bryan Alan (Leslie) MacLauchlan, Marc Alan (Amie) MacLauchlan, and Glenn Alan (Micheline) MacLauchlan; brother, Richard MacLauchlan; sister, Bonnie MacLauchlan, and 2 grandchildren, Sherwin and Cail.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. A reception will follow the church service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be at 1:00 P.M. at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park, Riverview, Florida with Military Honors.
