Obituary for Dominic James Mancuso
Dominic J. Mancuso, 92 years old, died peacefully at home, December 27, 2021.
He was born in Pennsylvania, and soon after, his family moved to Highland Park, New Jersey. Dominic joined the Army in 1950, where he met Pauline Heath, from Ocoee, FL. They married in 1954. After he left the Army, he moved to Tampa where he worked as a Wear-Ever Cookware Salesman, and Cutco Cutlery Salesman. Dominic and Pauline then moved to Brandon, FL in 1964. They have celebrated 67 years of marriage. Together, Dominic and his wife have five children.
After retiring from sales, he became a Restaurateur. Over the years, Dominic operated the restaurants at Diamond Hill and Buckhorn Springs Golf and Country Club. He opened Dom's Rustic Lodge Restaurant in Thonotosassa, FL in 1974, where he quickly became legendary for his amazing steaks. After selling the restaurant in 1987, he then opened a Dairy Queen in Cherokee, N.C. 1990.
He was an active parishioner at Nativity Catholic Church in Brandon, FL. He was the President of the Home and School Association for the school. Thanks to his delicious spaghetti and meatball dinners, and hours of volunteer work, the tight knit community of amazing people put Mayberry to shame. Together, they were instrumental in getting the first air conditioning unit for the school. He helped the Nativity Novemberfest grow year after year with these wonderful people. He motivated community fathers to become more active with the Boy Scouts by tempting them with steaks instead of beans for dinner.
Dominic is survived by his wife, Pauline Mancuso, Son, Tom Mancuso; Daughters, Angel Allen, and her husband Mike; Mary Mancuso-Lunden; Donna Mancuso-Fultz, and her husband Mike; Paula Fretwell, and her husband Taz, his sister Kathy Krzeszewski and her two sons, Daniel, and Michael.
Dominic is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As a loving husband, caring father, and a welcoming friend, he lives on in our hearts. He will always be remembered as never meeting a stranger wherever he went. We look forward to joining him at his heavenly table. Keep the sauce warm and the pasta ready.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and service of remembrance will be at 11 a.m. at Nativity Catholic Church of Brandon on Thursday, Dec. 30th. Reception following at The Brandon Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Nativity Food Pantry.
