POAGE, Dolores Palmer, 80, passed away peacefully, at home, on Saturday, July 11, 2009. She moved to Plant City, FL from Maysville, KY, in 1957 and has lived in Valrico since 1995, where her neighbors affectionately named her "Mayor" of their community. She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Henry F. "Pete" Poage; her parents, Lucille Dennis and R.T. Palmer, Jr.; a brother, Robert A. Palmer and a sister, Kay Palmer Sharp. She was a member of Germantown Christian Church, where she visited, with her cousins, in September 2008, while attending her 61st High School Class Reunion. She was a charter member of the Plant City #1727 Ladies of Elks, member of Brandon-Valrico Eagles Aerie #3566 Auxillary, a sponsor of the Plant City Junior Women's Club. Dolores, and her husband Pete, helped to organize the first Strawberry Festival Youth Parade in Plant City. She loved her family most, followed by her "Gators", biking, walking, traveling and the YMCA. Until her illness, she worked as a funeral attendant and enjoyed the fellowship of her co-workers at Southern Funeral Care. She is survived by a son, Henry L. Poage and his wife, Connie Kalel; a daughter, Melissa K. Poage; a granddaughter, Kristina Lynn Poage; four nephews, Robert Palmer, Darek (Jennifer) Sharp, Jason Sharp and Ryan (Jennifer) Sharp and a great-nephew, Caleb Sharp.

Funeral Information

A Gathering of family and friends will be held at the Brandon Elks Lodge, #2383, 800 Centennial Lodge Drive, Brandon, FL 33510, on Sunday, July 26, 2009, from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Inurnment will be in Lake Weir, near Ocklawaha, FL, at a later date.
