Obituary for David Lucian Tupper
David Lucian Tupper, 84, of Brandon, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 10, 2021. The youngest of five, he was born in Hamilton, Ohio on September 10, 1937, to Eleanor McManus and Alphonse Tupper.

Due to unfortunate circumstances David and his siblings were placed in an orphanage. The family was later reunited in Cairo, Illinois, with David being the last child to join them. The five Tupper children were raised by their mother; grandmother, Carrie McManus; and aunt, Catherine Lucas.

The family later moved to Michigan, where he graduated from St. Patrick’s High School. He attended the University of Detroit, earning a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Electrical Engineering while participating in the Army ROTC program. After college, he served as an officer in the Army Air Defense Command. On November 23, 1963 David married the love of his life, Patricia Scagnetti, in Michigan. He later received his Masters of Business Administration from Jacksonville State University in Alabama. Throughout their 58 years together, they lived and grew their family in West Allis, Wisconsin; Gadsden, Alabama; Montreal, Quebec; Memphis, Tennessee; and Brandon, Florida.

David was a principled, honorable man who valued his relationship with our Heavenly Father, family and friends infinitely more than money or earthly possessions. Education, family, financial responsibility and the pursuit of personal and spiritual growth were his top priorities. He was never without a pipe or a willing ear to listen. While the engineer in him was always ready to sit down with you, make a To-Do list, review the pros and cons and formulate a strategy... the man that he was, the way he lived his life, the example he set was the “real” way he taught. He loved his Nativity Church family and was a Knights of Columbus and Emmaus brother as well as a longtime member, along with Patricia, in his Small Christian Community. He felt called to serve those in need by acting as a Eucharistic minister to nursing homes and the homebound. He valued his time spent helping the homeless and underserved through the Nativity Outreach Food Bank and Meals on Wheels. His face beamed when one of his children or grandchildren came along to help, as he could see them learning that all God’s children should be treated with dignity and respect. David was passionate and devoted to his family, and was happiest when his children and grandchildren were together at “The Compound.” His steadfast devotion and love for his wife never wavered and grew stronger every year. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched as a faithful servant of God.

David’s loud, yet friendly greeting and big smile made everyone feel important. He enjoyed playing all games, especially card games, with Pinochle being his favorite. One can’t reminisce about David without touching on sports. He coached his children in soccer and basketball, instilling hard work and fundamentals, and made an effort to attend his children and grandchildren’s games and activities. He left this earth a die-hard Lightning, Bucs and Notre Dame fan. His children had special memories sharing Super Bowl and Stanley Cup wins with him.

David is survived by his wife of 58 years Patricia Tupper; sister Caroline Florescu, MD; six children John Tupper, MD (Leigh Anne), Jennifer Martinez (Hector), Rebecca Miller (Jeff), Margaret Kittrell (Scott), David Tupper (Lourdes), Benjamin Tupper (Erin); 21 grandchildren Erika, Jordan (Tate), Emily, Sam, Tito, Jamie, Michael, Lauren, Robby (Alyssa), Hannah, Grace, David Paul, Dylan, Dove, Landon, Leia, Lincoln, Luke, Anna, Lily & Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Fr. John Tupper; Fr. Luke Tupper, MD; and Gerry Tupper, J.D.

A funeral mass is planned for Friday, February 18th at 10am at Nativity Catholic Church in Brandon, Florida, with a Celebration of Life to be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, 11 am - 1 pm at Bay Life Church, 1017 Kingsway Rd., Brandon, FL 33510.
