Obituary for Daniel Wall, Jr.
Daniel Wall, Jr., 78, of Lithia, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020. A native of Astoria, NY, he was a US Marine Corp veteran. He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter Kerri Brown & Son-in-Law Richard Brown; daughter Tracey Wall; and grandchildren Alexandra, Caroline, Richard, and Daniel.
Dan honorably served in the United States Marine Corp from 1964-1968. He obtained the rank of Sergeant & served as a member of the Marine Security Guard Detachment at the United States Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, and New Delhi, India. Daniel loved his time spent in the Marine Corps, and often spoke of his time in India as the “best two-and-a-half years of his life”.
In 1979, Dan & Marie moved out of Queens to Wantagh, NY, as he wanted his children to grow up with a backyard to play in. He spent his life working as an elevator mechanic in & around NYC and was known on Sherry Avenue for his meticulously tended flower & vegetable garden, from which he loved to share. Neighbors remember him for his friendly “Howdy Neighbor” greeting & wave, and he made everyone laugh with his sarcastic sense of humor & memorable expressions.
He spent his retirement years in the mountain & lake communities of Vernon & West Milford, NJ, where he loved watching the ‘bears & foliage’ in the Autumn months. Dan loved nothing more than spending time with his four grandkids, whether helping with homework or playing Risk & rummy, family was everything to him.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 29, 2020, from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. at Southern Funeral Care, Riverview. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Riverview. Interment, with military honors, will be 12:30 P.M. Wednesday at Sarasota National Cemetery.
