NELSON, Sr., Chester Barker, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, FL, of complications from a stroke. Chester was the ambassador of ambassadors; he never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the 505th Bomber Group, 20th Air Force as a Mechanic on the B-29 Bomber in the South Pacific on the island of Tinian. Chester was a tile setter by trade and was still setting tile for friends into his eighties. He was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church, Melbourne, KY; a member of Alexandria Kentucky Masonic Lodge #152 and the Alexandria Veterans of Foreign Wars. His wife of 60+ years, Kathryn Glasbrenner Nelson, predeceased him in 2008. He is survived by his children, Chester B. Nelson, Jr., Cold Spring, KY and Kathy Nelson Graziani (Larry), Tampa, FL; two grandchildren, Amanda and Ben Graziani, both of Tampa, FL and his brothers, Richard T. Nelson, Melbourne, KY and Jacob D. Nelson, California, KY.
Funeral Information
A memorial service will be held 4:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Oakland United Methodist Church. He set up an anatomical gift to the University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL, and his ashes will be inurned at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Williamstown, KY.
