Charles A. Marsicano Sr.
Marsicano, Charles A. Sr., 89, native and long-time resident of Tampa, Florida and Holmes Beach, Florida, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011. A graduate of Jesuit High School and member of the Jesuit High Hall of Fame. Charles earned a degree in Mortuary Science from Gupton-Jones in Nashville, Tenn., served as a licensed funeral director and was a founder and co-owner of Marsicano Funeral Home, founded in 1956. Charles was a WW II veteran, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a past President of Christ the King Catholic Church Parents' Club, Parish Council, and member of the Parish School Board. He was also past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 667, Past Faithful Navigator, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, and former District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus. He was a past President and Board Chairman of the Interbay Sertoma Club, former Board Chair and Honorary Member of the Tampa Fire fighters' Sertoma, former Board Chair and Honorary Member of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Sertoma Club, member of the Sheriff's Association, Associate Member of FOP Lodge #108, member of the Board of St. Joseph Hospital's Development Council, and a past President of the United Cerebral Palsy of Tampa. As a founder and member of Bay Lake Lodge,Charles enjoyed fishing and hunting until suffering a debilitating stroke in 2001. He was a kind, loving and proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather to five children, nine grandchildren,and five great-grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic and second-generation Italian, and was exceptionally proud of both his heritage and the accomplishments of his children. He is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 66 years; daughters, Pat and Eileen; sons, John, Gary, and Charles, Jr.; brothers, Rocco and Ralph, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Our family also extends heartfelt gratitude to his long-time caregiver, Kathy, who helped our dad live his life with dignity. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry, officiated by Father Len Plazewski and long-time family friend Deacon Bill Diaz, with the family receiving friends from 9:00 to10:30 a.m. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Florida Division, 3709 West Jetton Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33629, as our dad lost two precious grandsons, Vincent and Tanner, and two nephews, Steve and Ed, to cancer.
