Charlene Anne Lawton 79, passed away peacefully, and went home to be with her Lord on July 12, 2026 in Valrico, Florida.
Charlene was born, raised and graduated high school in Elmira, NY. She spoke often of fun outings, growing up, with her parents, Clarence and Loretta Turner, and of how she loved dancing with friends to her lifelong favorite, Elvis.
She met and married, at age 20, Michael Lawton, also born & raised in Elmira, and soon after left with him into a few years of military life in the army.
Upon Michael's honorable discharge from service, Charlene and he followed his family to Tampa, FL. Soon after, they relocated to Lakeland, FL where Michael had a career with Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Charlene thoroughly enjoyed a career as a hairdresser. They were married over 52 years until Michael's passing March 30, 2021.
Charlene also experienced many fun trips over the years with a dear friend, the highlight being visiting Graceland.
Charlene spent her last few years under the loving and compassionate care of the staff at VHIN Cares Group Home, whom she dearly loved in return, and to whom much gratitude is given.
She is survived by her three siblings; William, (Kathy Bryington), George (Kellie) Turner & Dawn Turner; three nieces, Debbie (Brad) Shirley, Karen (Bob) Lutz, Linda Woermbke; nephew Eric Bell; and several great and great great nieces & nephews.
She will be deeply missed and remembered. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Southern Funeral Care in Riverview, FL, with a visitation preceding at 1:30pm. She will be buried next to her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to any Hospice in her name.
