Obituary for Carl Walter Johannssen
In Loving Memory of a very special Dad and Papa
Carl Walter Johannssen, age 71, passed away at home due to Glioblastoma (brain cancer). Carl was a hard worker, always striving to make sure he provided for his family. He had a silly sense of humor and loved to talk to friends and family. Carl did not know a stranger and had a generous heart for helping others. He started his career as a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force and he was dedicated to UPS as a mechanic for 31 years. He enjoyed restoring vintage cars and spending time with his granddaughters in his rare downtime.
Those left to cherish his memory include his siblings Ted Johannssen, Peter Johannssen, Paul Johannssen, Hilda Van Vliet, Inga Schultz, Carol Van Wagner, and Charlotte Cilley; his children, Father John-Mary Johannssen (Christopher Johannssen), Lisa Johnson and Sarah Allen; and his grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Michael Johnson, Grace Allen, Lauren Allen, and Hannah Allen; and a host of friends.
There will be a Catholic Mass at 10:30am on Tuesday, Aug 31st at Nativity Catholic Church in Brandon, Florida. See full itinerary of events to honor Carl below. Visit https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/carljohannssen for the most updated event information as plans are still progressing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (http://franciscanfriars.com/) to support their charitable work with the poor or the Glioblastoma Foundation (https://glioblastomafoundation.org/) to support further research and therapies.
