Obituary for Bryan Scott Funk
Bryan Scott Funk

FUNK, Bryan Scott, 32, of Tampa, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2016, resulting from post-surgical complications secondary to Marfan syndrome. Bryan was born in Bryan, Texas, and once described himself as a "walking copyright violation." He was a 2002 graduate of the King High School International Baccalaureate program. He received his bachelor's degree from Stetson University in 2006, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Reporter, Stetson's student newspaper. He received his law degree from Florida State University in 2010. He was an attorney for Disability Rights Florida, and was a tireless advocate for persons with disabilities and their families. Bryan enjoyed reading, building computers, video games, target and clays shooting, drinking and brewing craft beer, playing trivia, and most of all, playing with his dogs Izzy and Peanut. He was a brother of Jackson Lodge #1 Masonic Lodge, Tallahassee. He was an avid Florida State football fan, though not as much as his wife Liz, and regularly came in last in his fantasy baseball league. For the past eight months, Bryan suffered many substantial medical challenges. Through this time, his wife and parents devoted countless hours to his care and comfort. Though his time with us was short, he is now free of suffering. Bryan is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Funk; his parents, Scott and Shirley Funk; his sisters, Jennie (Michael) Mealor and Emily Funk; his grandparents, Henry and Martha Wells; his uncle, Pat Wells, his niece, Evelyn, and his best friend, Jeremiah Pederson.

Funeral Information

A memorial service for Bryan will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Tampa on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at 4:00 PM, followed by a reception at the Pour House at Grand Central.
