On Saturday, July 8, 2023, Brenda Renee Stephens, 72, of Riverview, FL, passed away peacefully. Early that morning, the clouds lifted and the Aurora Borealis ushered her to heaven. She was surrounded by family along her bedside including her oldest daughter, Tracey Walker, oldest sister, Linda Pratt, youngest sister, Leronda ”Ronia” Shannon and niece, Raven Shannon. She also had constant visits from her youngest daughter and grandchildren throughout and video/phone visits with her loving family.
Brenda was born on February 21,1951, in Atlanta, GA, to Leroy and Edmonia Stephens who preceded in her death and are now embracing their daughter. She will also be reunited with her three brothers, Michael Stephens, Mark Stephens, and Fiorello Stephens. Until we all are reunited, we are left for a while to cherish memories. Brenda is survived by two daughters, Tracey Walker-Woods (Chris) and Terri Stroud (Ellis); five grandchildren, Brandon Walker, Alina Walker, Aminah Walker, Tariq Walker, Chloe Stroud; seven great-grandchildren, Ah’Maya Walker, King Walker, Ace Walker, Sa’Riyah Walker, Za’Hir Walker, Zella and Caiomi; two sisters, Linda Pratt (David) and Leronda “Ronia” Shannon (Jeff); brother, Marlon Stephens; two nephews, Fiorello Steven Terry, Sr. (Chandra) and Rashi Chevalier (Yulanda); two nieces, Raven Shannon and Taylor Gwinn; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives that she loved as well.
Brenda had a love for water and warm weather. She would often say she was going move to Florida, after briefly residing in Florida years ago. She relocated in 2018 and enjoyed as much as she could endure. She retired from the field of security in which she loved; ironically, this really speaks to her character as she was a protector of her family who she loved so much. She was feisty when she needed to be but most of all, selflessness and generosity were the two traits that highlighted her personality. Everyone knows that Brenda had a Big heart and a giving nature. She was a very independent and private person. You would have to Know her to Know her! She also had a great sense of humor known as the 5 B’s: Bad, Bold, Black, Beautiful, Brenda!! She was known as Big Mama to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren!! She will truly be missed by ALL who crossed paths with her.
