Beverly Souther, age 80, passed away suddenly of natural causes in her home on Friday, December 9, 2022. Bev was born in 1942 to her parents, Bill and Ilene Turkington. She grew up in the Seminole Heights area of Tampa, Florida. She spent much of her childhood playing softball and other outdoor games. She was the winner of the Jacks tournament at Giddens Park.
Her family faithfully attended church at The Salvation Army in Tampa, where her grandfather was the Commanding Officer, and through which she grew to love the Word of God and His church.
Throughout her youth, she participated in many ministries of The Salvation Army. She especially loved going to Camp. She played the Euphonium in the Band, sang with the Songsters, and shared her testimony at open-air street services.
Soon after graduating from Hillsborough High School, she married her husband, H.T. Souther. They lived in Daytona Beach for a time before moving back to Tampa, where H.T. was hired onto Tampa Fire Department. They had two children and built a house in Brandon, where they lived over 50 years, until H.T. died in 2015. Bev was a stay-at-home mom, and she also worked in jewelry sales for several years. She loved to play tennis, and she won a few trophies in Brandon tennis competitions.
In addition to her family, Bev’s greatest love is her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active, long-time member of Bell Shoals Church. She was diligent to study the Bible and memorize Scripture. She has discipled, mentored, and prayed with countless ladies over the last 30+ years. She sang in the choir, taught Junior High girls’ Bible class, children’s Vacation Bible School, and traveled on mission trips. She was serving at the church food pantry two days before her death, and she led a ladies’ weekly prayer group the night before she was Promoted to Glory.
Bev loved being with her family. When they were together, she never wanted anyone to leave. Beverly is survived by her Son, Mark Souther and his wife, Heather; her Daughter, Beth Weaver and her husband, Jerry; her Granddaughter Tori Miller and her husband, Shane; her Granddaughter Rachel Alves and her husband, Junior; her Granddaughter, Bethany Weaver; her Brother, Gene Wolfe; her Sister, Brenda Swanson; several nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 7, 2023, in the chapel of Bell Shoals Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Salvation Army or Bell Shoals Church.
