Betty Joiner, 89 years old, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 11, 1936 in Tampa, Florida. She was the oldest of three children and preceded in death by her younger brothers, Leon and Robert Mitchell. Betty met her husband, Rev. Joel Joiner when she was just sixteen years old and the two fell in love. They married on Christmas Eve and spent 68 wonderful years together before he left to prepare their heavenly house for her arrival. In that time together, Betty brought two children into the world, and loved living life as a pastor's wife and raising her kids. She would eventually go on to take a part-time role raising her three granddaughters who all called her Nanny.
While Betty loved her family and spending time with them, her favorite place of all to be was home. She could always be found watching her favorite shows while something was cooking on the stove or wandering outside, probably feeding the stray cats. She loved her quiet little slice of Riverview where she and Joel planted and plant she said she wanted from the nearby nurseries and hated when anything (and sometimes anyone) disturbed that peace. She always kept the bird feeders and bird bath full and enjoyed simply sitting and watching what came by.
Betty is already missed by many, but the love that she shared will live on with us. she leaves behind her two children, Joel and Karen; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Amber and Crystal; and nine great-grandchildren.
