
Obituary for Bette Jean Burger-Volz
Bette Jean Burger-Volz BJ, 80, of Riverview Florida, passed away on Sunday January 9th, 2022 after a 6-year battle with lung cancer, COPD, and CHF. She finally succumbed to COVID pneumonia. BJ was born in Tampa on June 24th, 1941 to Alex and Martha Burger. She had 2 brothers, Alex Jr and James, and 2 sisters, Pat and Linda. BJ attended Hillsborough High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and other various organizations. She graduated in 1959. After graduating, BJ worked for a few years as an operator for GTE. From there she went to work at Eastern Airlines. While at Eastern BJ worked in the Baggage area at the airport, and the Customer Service/Ticketing Center off Boyscout Road. She remained at Eastern until they closed their doors in 1990. For the next chapter in her life, BJ attended Hillsborough Community College where she graduated with an AS in Radiology Tech, with honors. After 2 short stints at smaller radiation clinics, BJ landed her dream job as a Radiation Tech with the Moffitt Cancer Center adjacent to Tampa General Hospital. She remained at Moffitt until her retirement in 2011. BJ is survived by her sister Linda Dankert, 2 sons Richard A Volz and Steven A Volz, 2 granddaughters Veronica A Volz and Vanessa R Volz, daughter-in-law Lisanne Volz and 4 step- grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 29th, from 12pm to 2pm at Southern Funeral Care located at 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, Florida 33578, casual attire. BJ was a passionate animal lover and we ask in lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
