Anita Carroll, aged 98, died of respiratory failure on March 6th, attended by her son Philip, and daughter-in-law Lesa. A memorial service and inurnment of her ashes will be held at Holy Innocent's Episcopal Church at 3:00 on Saturday, May 24th. Anita was born in Salem, Massachusetts and lived in the area until she joined the Navy where she worked as a Photographer’s Assistant. Her name is engraved on the Women’s Military Memorial in Washington, D.C. While in the Navy, she met and married James Carroll, her husband of 52 years and gave birth to their son Philip. She was an active member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal (then Anglican) Church in Largo for over 40 years and served as the President of the Episcopal Churchwomen of the Diocese of Southwest Florida in the 1980s. Upon moving to her son's in Brandon, she became a member of Holy Innocent's Episcopal Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, was known as a master cookie-maker and quilter. She is survived by her son Philip and his wife Lesa, her grandchildren Sean, Eric, and Kathleen, and their children and spouses. Donations can be made to her favorite charities, Shriners International, the Women’s Military Memorial, or to Holy Innocents Episcopal Church. She was much loved and will be missed.
