
Angela Smith Sweeney, 95, of Brandon, Florida passed away on January 4, 2025. She was predeceased by her parents, Giuseppe “Joe” Midili and Angela Midili, her husbands, Ralph Smith, Frank Sweeney, her cherished daughter, Teresa Smith Weaver, and her siblings, Rosella De Palma, Salvatore Mideli, Sostine Midili, Antoinette Midili, Jennie Sakellaris, and Mary Plazewski. She is survived by her sons, Robert Smith (Linda), Steve Smith (Laraine), and Mark Smith (Krystine) and her loving and devoted companion, Frank Fuchs. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Midili of San Antonio, FL, as well as by 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Angela was a lifelong Floridian. She was born in San Antonio, Florida on June 18, 1929. She graduated from Holy Name Academy in St Leo, Florida. Angela was incredibly devoted to her family, friends, and community. She loved and cherished her family and was a very doting daughter, sister, mother, nana, aunt, and great-aunt to her extended family. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and it brought her joy to share her meals and pies with her loved ones. While small in stature, she had a large personality. She usually had a very quick-witted line up her sleeve. Angela held various positions in business over her working career and was considered a mentor by many of her coworkers.
Angela was very active in the Bay area community. She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church in Brandon and was a dedicated volunteer at the Nativity Food Bank. She also volunteered at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts for 18 years. She was a longtime member of the Brandon Elks Lodge where she loved socializing with her many friends. Angela lived a long and beautiful life devoted to helping and caring for others, and she will be missed by so many.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Nativity Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until Mass time. A reception will be held at the Brandon Elks Lodge #2383, 800 Centennial Lodge Drive, Brandon, FL 33510, immediately following the ceremony.
