Alice Faria Pinto (Lalicha), aged 89, peacefully passed away at her home in Riverview, Florida, on February 23, 2026, due to kidney disease, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on February 1, 1937, in Nova Sintra, Brava, Cape Verde, Alice was the daughter of João Gualberto Faria (Gúgú) and Ester Gomes Faria (Tété), both hailing from Brava. Throughout her life, Alice lived in various countries, including Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Portugal, and the United States. She spent many years as a resident of Stoughton, Massachusetts, before enjoying her retirement in Riverview, Florida.
Alice had a profound passion for education, dedicating her life to teaching and lifelong learning. She studied education in Coimbra, Portugal, and began her teaching career in Guinea-Bissau, later teaching in Luanda, Angola, and Portugal.
After immigrating to the United States and graduating from UMASS Boston, she continued her teaching career in Stoughton and then in Brockton, Massachusetts. Alice retired in 1999 and moved to Riverview. She was an avid reader, a history enthusiast, a devout Catholic, and found great joy in cooking.
She is survived by her sister, Alda Jonet, from Riverview, Florida, and her three children: Helena Miranda of Dartmouth, Massachusetts; Maria McGowan of Northport, New York; and George Pinto of Riverview, Florida. Alice also leaves behind six grandchildren—Cristina Miranda, David Azinheira, Sabrina Azinheira, Phillip McGowan, Justin McGowan, and John McGowan—and five great-grandchildren: Cole Miranda-Lynn, Natalie Azinheira, Adrien Azinheira, Reid McGowan, and Maeve McGowan. Additionally, she is survived by her sons-in-law—José Miranda, Mark McGowan, and Lee Azinheira—as well as by her brother-in-law, Franklin Jonet, and niece, Connie Jonet-Branco.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, João and Ester, her daughter Cristina Azinheira, her ex-husband Silvério Pinto, and her niece Teresa Jonet Ryan.
Funeral arrangements for Alice Faria Pinto will take place on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Southern Funeral Care, located at 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, FL 33578. A viewing is scheduled from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM.
